Christina Aguilera Talks About the Unfair Expectations Put on Mothers

WH's March cover star offers some solid advice to all the working women and mothers out there.

Back in the day, when Christina Aguilera was singing about the joys of getting a little dirrty, she wasn't talking about changing diapers. But as you'll read in the March issue of Women's Health, having two children since then hasn't turned the Voice judge into a Pollyanna. She's still as bold as ever, calling out the unfair expectations placed on women—especially moms—and offering some encouragement to all of us who might feel like we're biting off more than we can chew.

“Mothers are constantly expected to be the nurturers, the givers, the providers of a comfortable home,” she told WH. “We’re expected to be pregnant, have the kids, breastfeed once we have the babies. And we’re expected to look amazing after baby, right?"

From our side of town, Xtina definitely does look amazing post-baby, but her point that it's expected is one many women can relate to. And her justifiable grievances didn't end there: "[We're expected to] keep our husbands and boyfriends interested—because we’re supposed to get back to sexy and keep things exciting in the bedroom. There’s such a long list."

At the end of the day, of course, she wouldn't trade motherhood in for anything. "Having children is the ultimate joy, and I love my kids, but women have to find time to nurture themselves. If someone has a baby, the first thing I’m like is, ‘Okay, are you taking care of you?’”

And that's why we've always wanted Xtina for a BFF.

Hear her advice to all women in our exclusive behind-the-scenes video from the cover shoot!
